Reliance Jio has revolutionized the field of telecom services as well as the concept of keypad phones or feature phones. The Jio Phone that comes with 4G support is not only used for talking, but also supports popular apps like WhatsApp, YouTube etc. But this time around, Mukesh Ambani’s company has come up with a new ploy to attract customers and compete with rival telecom companies like Vodafone-Idea or Airtel. According to a recent report, the telco is planning to join hands with smartphone maker Vivo to launch a new and exclusive Jio Smartphone in the Indian market soon. It is also learned that these smartphones from Jio will offer some special benefits like free access to various OTT platforms, one time screen replacement, shopping benefits etc.

According to the report, not only Vivo, Reliance Jio is in talks with Indian brands like Carbon, Lava and other Chinese smartphone brands. Sources claim that the company is planning to launch a smartphone with Vivo at a price of Rs 6,000 or less.

As heard a few days ago, Geo has teamed up with Chinese smartphone maker iTel to bring new 4G smartphones to India. These phones will be priced between Rs 3,000 and Rs 4,000. Although no such smartphone has reached the market yet. However, the Economic Times claims that the launch of the Jio smartphone in conjunction with Vivo is just a matter of time.

In this regard, Mr. Ashwinder Sethi, Principal, Global Consulting and Research Firm, Analysis Mason, said, “Geo is looking to increase its market share by offering benefits like handset bundling and handset subsidy to users of 4G feature phones before their contracts expire.”

According to analysts, GEO’s new initiatives will further increase the company’s customer base. About 350 million people in India use feature phones. Geo phone user base is not less. So no wonder if in the coming days Geo will occupy a large part of the smartphone market!
