Transfer Deadline Day LIVE! Ronaldo to Man Utd; Mbappe latest; Saul Niguez to Chelsea FC; Arsenal, Spurs rumours

After more than two-and-a-half months, an explosive transfer window that was originally predicted to be one of the slowest owing to the effects of the Covid pandemic is drawing to a close.

Clubs in England have until 11pm BST tonight to get those last-day deals over the line, after which they have to wait until January for a chance to strengthen their respective squads once again.

Cristiano Ronaldo should officially complete his sensational return to Manchester United today after passing a medical and Juventus confirmed his exit, though Kylian Mbappe is one superstar staying put after Real Madrid reportedly withdrew their offer to Paris Saint-Germain and turned their focus onto Eduardo Camavinga. That should also mean Erling Haaland will be staying with Borussia Dortmund.

Chelsea have seemingly not given up on deals for LaLiga duo Jules Kounde and Saul Niguez, while Tottenham are closing in on the signing of Barcelona full-back Emerson Royal and have been eyeing Adama Traore.

Manchester United are also on the trail of Ronaldo’s Portuguese team-mate Ruben Neves amid more links to Declan Rice, with Renato Sanches in talks to join Wolves on loan and Leicester going for Ademola Lookman.

Manchester City are still looking for that elusive striker after Harry Kane elected to remain at Spurs and West Ham may have been offered fresh hope in their pursuit of Jesse Lingard.

Willian’s exit from Arsenal has now been confirmed… could the likes of Hector Bellerin and Ainsley Maitland-Niles now follow? And will Liverpool strengthen any further before the deadline?

Maitland-Niles told he’s not going anywhere

Despite sending out a public plea on Instagram, Arsenal have told 24-year-old Ainsley Maitland-Niles that he’s staying put.

The England international, capped five times by Gareth Southgate, posted an audacious statement on his Instagram page:

““All I wanna do is go where I’m wanted and where I’m gonna play,” he wrote accompanied with three crying emojis.”

But Mikel Arteta has ignored Ainsley Maitland-Niles’ impassioned personal plea to resurrect his career away from north London.

As news of a potential switch to Everton gathered pace on Monday morning, Gunners supporters took to social media to express their disappointment at the prospect of their academy graduate leaving the club ahead of Tuesday’s transfer deadline.

But just a few hours later, having already indicated privately that Maitland-Niles could leave the Emirates, the versatile midfielder was told in an hastily-arranged face-to-face meeting that he was no longer allowed to go.
